Flash: 32 kB (28kB free) RAM: 1024 Byte - Eeprom: 32 kB Protocolos: T0, T1, TE - Language: ASM, (C) KnotOS, is an operating system that allows multiple application programs to be installed and to reside separately and securely on a smart card. Each program is isolated by the operating system so that no application can interfere with another one. Whereas earlier smart card systems did not allow new applications to be installed or old ones deleted, KnotOS makes this possible. Updates or patches can also be installed as needed. Each application is platform-independent due to the implementation of a virtual machine. Developers write applications for KnotOS smart cards using the KnotOS SDK (Software Developer Kit), avalaible to developers under a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) The KnotOS SDK allows the developement of applets using standard languages as C or JAVA or to program using the native assembler of the KnotCard chip through a HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) avalaible for each platform in wich KnotOS can run. Before KnotOS, application developers had to write a separate version of the application for each type of smart card and the consumer needed a separate smart card for each application. With KnotOS, several applications can reside on one smart card regardless of the microchip used. Security for KnotOS in KnotCard is enabled by the Knot Certification Authority (KCA), which issues cryptographic keys for each KnotOS smart card and all KnotOS applications. These keys prevent unauthorized applications from being loaded into a card or deleted without the issuer"s permission. Implemented Algorithms Asymmetric Technologies: RSA-based encryption technologies digital signatures based on elliptic curves (EC-DSA, EC-NR) and additional encryption methods (e.g. DSA) Diffie-Hellman key authentication and Diffie-Hellman derivatives (such as MQV) based on elliptic curves Miscellaneous Technologies: scope of integration of standard symmetric codes and hash functions tailored to individual needs (DES,3DES,SHA,MD5) High flexibility with regard to the implementation ? this is the main characteristic of KnotCard ECC routines. For the first time, personalization can be implemented directly on the card. This has been achieved without the use of programming techniques based on basic structures or curves. Nonetheless, computing times remain in the scope of a few hundred milliseconds. There is no limit to the scalability of parameters. Therefore, only one smart card fits all security needs and can be used in all environments. Smartcards offer the best possible protections for sensitive information such as private keys. The most recent attack methods aim at compromising computing process information on the chip level. KnotCard routines are well protected against current cracking techniques such as power or timing attacks, as well as invasive methodologies as Tampering or Glitching System Requirements Supported CPUs: KnotOS, the Operating System inside the KnotCard is avalaible for a variety of platforms, including Infineon, Philips, Atmel and Samsung . Performance Characteristics: The following base data can be assumed for ECC algorithm applications: parameters of up to 256 bits in the current version and up to 521 bits in the extended version processing times for the creation of digital signatures (EC-DSA) of approximately 130 ms for 160 bit keys and up to approximately 300 ms for 256 bit keys. acceleration possible using additional EEPROM memory. the required main memory for a signature component code (EC-DSA) is in the range of 2 KB, approx. 60 bytes of RAM, approx. 250 bytes of XRAM, and EEPROM memory (depends on desired acceleration factor).
